Research & methods

A curious mind. A careful method.

We study patterns in language and speech—and the distance between what we can measure and what we can responsibly conclude.

Research in development

An observation lens beside a fern and field notes.

Observation comes first.

Describing a pattern in a recorded response and establishing what it says about personality are separate questions. A useful assessment should make that distinction clear.

Defined measurements.

Start with explicit rules for what is being observed and what conditions a measurement requires.

Understandable boundaries.

Keep language, context, input quality, and missing evidence visible in the interpretation.

Questions that stay open.

Evaluate interpretations separately and be clear about what has—and has not—been established.

Show the working.

Notes from the research desk, and questions still ahead.
